Level 2: Diving into Journey, Integration & Aftercare of KAP

Explore the world of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy in this introductory course. 

This comprehensive course spans two days and continues on from Level 1 training, offering an in-depth exploration of the priniciples and practices of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). Participants will engage in practical exercises, role-plays, and discussions covering various aspects of journey preparation, self-regulation, therapeutic techniques, and most essentially aftercare. Attendees will gain valuable insights and tools for effective therapeutic practices in both online and in-person settings, ensuring a holistic understanding and effective implementation within their therapeutic practice.

Day 1 : Friday (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM)

Introductions:

    • Overview – The KAP journey

The Dose Sessions:

  • Pre-journey preparations/instructions (online & in person)
    • Storage of scheduled drugs
  • Dose session
    • Specifying intention
    • Monitoring the journey + playlist
    • Steps in helping the patient come out of the journey
    • Integration of journey to intention

Aftercare:

  • Summarizing and reviewing patients’ 9 weeks of treatment and future plan
  • Videos for Setting Intention
  • Role-play Intention setting for each presentation

Day 2 - Saturday (9:30 AM - 5:00 PM)

Review – Cultivating ESS’s and OSS’s:

  • Learn, rehearse, teach ES and OS Skills
  • Practice – guided meditation, deep relaxation, body scan, movement
  • Introduction to Somatic Meditation
  • SUDS for self-monitoring
  • Journal for deeper looks into the self

Cultivate self-regulation skills:

  • Breathwork
  • Divided attention
  • Distress tolerance
  • Self-observation
  • Contemplation/Observation

Setting – Journey preparations for Online Treatment:

  • Setting – Journey preparations for In-Person Treatment
  • Video demonstrations – Journey at-home session
  • Role-play: Prep for Journey (TRD, PTSD, Anxiety)
  • Video – Integration session
  • Role-play – Integration session (Case study)
  • Aftercare – putting together 9 weeks of self-observations, insights, behavioral changes, to reinforce sustaining the core plan over time.

Dr. Dawn DeCunha

Instructor

Dr. Dawn DeCunha is a clinical psychologist with more than two decades of experience in trauma informed assessment and treatment. She is evolving her work from trauma informed to psychedelically informed and brings cutting edge, novel and disruptive treatment paradigms to the traditional sphere of evidence based psychological assessment and treatment of vulnerable populations. She is a fully qualified trainer and mentor of therapists practicing Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy.
